Can Taylor Swift Do for Cruise Lines What She Did for Movie Theaters?

The mere idea of Taylor Swift has her fans tuning into NFL games, crowding into movie theaters, and perhaps even booking a cruise.

Here’s what’s going on: A trio of travel agents from Marvelous Mouse Travels is sponsoring a four-night Bahamian cruise on the
Royal Caribbean
Allure of the Seas, setting sail on Oct. 21, 2024, after Swift’s last performance in Miami. “We’ll be working with
Royal Caribbean
planning Taylor events every night of our sailing!” said a blog post that clarified that the travel agency wasn’t endorsed or affiliated with the musician. Another important point to note: Taylor Swift won’t be on the cruise.

Though details haven’t been confirmed, the blog post included a list of possible activities ranging from friendship bracelet swapping to a themed dance party. “This is a group cruise that’s being organized by a travel agency,”
Royal Caribbean
told Barron’s via email.

If history is any guide, Taylor Swift fans will flock to an experience like this, which could mean good things for the cruise line. Look at
AMC Entertainment
(AMC), which is showing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film this fall, and in early October said it had sold more than $100 million in advance tickets globally.

Unfortunately for AMC, despite that stellar number, shares remain down 79% this year. Things look much better for Royal Caribbean stock, which has posted a gain of 108% this year and recently lifted its forecast for annual profit. Its peers
Carnival
(CCL) and
Norwegian Cruise Line
(NCLH) also are doing well, rising 82% and 21% this year, respectively.

Should other cruise lines jump on board with Taylor Swift-themed events, it seems doing so would only add wind to the sails.
